How do I register?
You can apply by filling out an application and submitting payment here. Please complete each section of the application. All requested documentation and payment must be received in the SME office by the posted application deadline. Approval to sit for the exam will be communicated within two weeks of receipt.

 

How can I get an invoice or receipt?

Please send all receipt inquiries to cs@smenet.org or contact SME customer service at 303-948-4200. You can also view your meeting registrations online and print your registration acknowledgement through your SME profile. Please visit smenet.org/login, use your email address and password, and locate My Meetings below My Contact Information on the My Account page. To see registration details, select View Registration next to the corresponding meeting.

How do I change my contact information?

All changes to an attendee record must be submitted in writing to cs@smenet.org.

What is the cancellation policy?

If circumstances require you to cancel your CMSP Exam registration, please contact cmsp@smenet.org.

What happens if my CMSP application gets denied?

If you are not approved to sit for the CMSP exam, you will receive a full refund, less a $150 (USD) application fee.

When do I receive review course materials?

Review course related materials will be distributed one week prior to the course.

What's included with registration?

The registration fees includes participation in all sessions, daily coffee, and lunch breaks and course materials.

How do I change my contact information?

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

If circumstances require you to cancel your CMSP Review Course registration, you must do so in writing. Send written notice of cancellation to cs@smenet.org one month prior to the course to receive a full refund. Cancellations received after the one-month deadline will receive a full refund, less a $100 (USD) processing fee.

When is my CMSP Renewal due?

Your completed application, including the PDP tracking form and fee are due on December 15 of your fifth year.

I was unable to complete all my PDP requirements. What can I do?

You can apply for hardship renewal extension, which may be granted for an additional 6 months. A request for hardship renewal extension must be submitted in writing by December 15 of the renewal year. You must submit how many PDPs are still needed, and a brief statement about how you will acquire the PDP in the coming months. The IAMSH Board approves extensions on a case-by-case basis within four weeks of receipt at SME.

I attended required MSHA 8-hour Annual Refresher training. Can I claim 0.8 points?

Yes, for each course the PDPs calculated is 0.8 points (0.1 * 8).

I attended an SME Annual Conference. How many PDPs can I claim?

You can claim PDPs for any Health or Safety related session you attend at any conference equal to 0.1 PDP per hour of attendance. Keep careful records of the session or professional paper attended of titles presenters, dates and locations in case your renewal is audited.

I attended a general mining conference. How many PDPs can I claim?

You can claim PDPs for any Health or Safety related session you attend at any conference equal to 0.1 PDP per hour of attendance. Keep careful records of the session or professional paper attended of titles presenters, dates and locations in case your renewal is audited.

I just completed my second year of a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in safety engineering. What courses can I claim for PDPs towards my renewal for this cycle and how do I document them?

You can claim any college or university coursework directly applicable to mine safety and health. Course examples include Injury and Damage Investigation, Emergency Response, Ergonomics, etc. General courses such as Chemistry, Technical Writing are not applicable.

Last year I attended an MSHA three-day Instructor Training Workshop for Part 48 and received my instructor’s certification. Can I claim PDPs for attending?

Yes, if CEUs were given, 1 CEU = 1 PDP; if CEU’s were not given, use 0.1 PDP per hour of attendance.

I recently completed Emergency Medical Technician training, and passed the certification exam. Can I claim PDPs for this training?

Yes, if CEUs were given, 1 CEU = 1 PDP; if CEU’s were not given, use 0.1 PDP per hour of attendance.
